“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart;
yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 declares that God has set eternity in the hearts of men. I’ve become convinced that, when God was handing out this longing for heaven, He gave me a double portion. This eternity that has been so indelibly set upon my heart is my sole qualification for speaking on the subject. I’m not a Bible scholar, or an ordained minister—I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, colleague, and most importantly, a follower of Christ. In all of these spheres of life and influence, I believe that an Ecclesiastes 3:11 mindset holds implications for how we live life, and how we approach death; for how we interact with others and with God; for how we esteem ourselves and our purpose here on earth; for how we read, interpret, and apply Scripture; and the list goes on. Since I’ve started focusing on this passage, since it has become the lens through which I view all else, my perspective has changed drastically, and continues to evolve a little more each day. If you’re reading this, I invite you to join me, to come along on this journey of discovering what it looks like to fully live in this world, even as the heart yearns for another. Please join me as this story unfolds.
